Male Body Oilfilm Plot
An SGI Altix system is used to run computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis for Speedo's FASTSKIN performance swimwear and competitive wear. Engineers look at the speed and direction of the flow of water, and where it leaves the body and where it reattaches itself to determine where the skin friction drag is high and where it is low. Seen here are oilflow lines over the body colored by dynamic pressure. This plot shows the path that streams of water take along the body. The colors represent the magnitude of skin friction drag along the body. Red means high skin friction, Blue means low skin friction.
