SGI Education adds OpenFOAM training to HPC portfolio

The OpenFOAM (Open Field Operation and Manipulation) open source CFD toolbox can simulate environments ranging from complex fluid flows involving chemical reactions, turbulence and heat transfer; to solid dynamics, electromagnetics and the pricing of financial options. Now, SGI Education has partnered with OpenCFD Limited to offer the Foundation and Advanced OpenFOAM courses to its comprehensive HPC training portfolio - available via www.hpctraining.com.

The two-day courses - appropriate to all levels of CFD practitioner - will be hosted from September 2008 at SGI's training centres in Reading and Munich. Additional course dates and a US roll-out are planned for early 2009.

OpenFOAM, which is produced by OpenCFD Ltd, simulates complex fluid flows involving multiple phases, turbulence, heat transfer, particle tracking and chemical reactions. As an open source product that is freely available under the GNU General Public Licence, OpenFOAM is fully extensible, enabling users to customise the toolbox to meet their particular needs. OpenFOAM is used in industry and academia worldwide, and across a wide range of engineering applications including automotive, nuclear, marine, fire, medical, processing and HVAC.

SGI is a leading provider of high performance computing, storage and visualization solutions, and its education division offers a wide schedule of HPC-related courses for career development in IT.
