SGI to Showcase Ice Cube® Modular Data Center at Data Centre World 2010
FREMONT, Calif., and Reading, England — February 22, 2010 — SGI (NASDAQ: SGI), a global leader in HPC and data center solutions, today announced that it will showcase ICE Cube, its modular data center, at this year's Data Centre World, February 23-24, 2010, at the Barbican, London, stand 49.
ICE Cube, SGI's award-winning 40-foot modular data center will be on display for the first time in the UK. It provides extreme containerised server and storage densities, with compute density levels up to 33,600 cores or storage capacity of up to 14.2 Petabytes of data in a compact 40' x 8' shipping container. Its advanced cooling design dramatically cuts ongoing operational expenses as does its easy serviceability, enabling organizations to save up to 50% on power and 80% on cooling costs compared to traditional data centers. ICE Cube provides tremendous flexibility for expansion to areas in which traditional data centre facilities are unavailable, cost prohibitive or cannot otherwise capitalise on alternative energy sources in remote locations.
SGI's CloudRack® product family will also be on show. Taking a rack-centric approach to server design, CloudRack servers achieve extreme densities with break through energy efficiency and high reliability. CloudRack capitalises on an ultra-efficient, Eco-Logical™ design which uses fan-less and cover-less 1U server trays with all cooling and AC-DC power conversion performed at the rack level. This assures maximum power usage, cooling efficiency, and staggering server densities.
In addition, SGI will be highlighting its partnership with on365, which strengthens the ability of both companies to deliver end-to-end solutions that optimize the flexibility and operational performance of enterprise, mid-range and SMB data center physical infrastructures, while improving manageability and energy efficiency.
SGI speaking sessions
On Wednesday, February 24, in Theatre One at 11:15 a.m., Rod Evans, regional vice president for Northern Europe at SGI will join a panel discussion: ‘Data Centre Efficiency — Green IT, Cost Reduction and the Jevons Paradox'.
