What: SGI is participating in the annual Bio-IT Conference and Expo, and is exhibiting in booth #232. Jill Matzke PhD, director of product marketing at SGI, will be joined by Dr. Rune Linding, principal investigator and research group leader of the Department of Systems Biology at the Technical University of Denmark.
The presentation, entitled "Large Shared Memory and Big Dynamic Range Computing - Essential Drivers in Global Modeling of Cancer Cells" takes place at 1:45pm as part of the Track 1 'IT Infrastructure - Hardware' sessions being held at the Conference.
Why: The size and complexity of cell-imaging, mass-spectrometry and deep-sequencing systems biology data is exploding. Researchers perform global, non-linear algorithmic integration of these to model cancer progression. While in scale corresponding to models of climate/weather systems the underlying data is vastly more complex creating formidable computational challenges. The discussion will explain how computational dynamic range and large-shared memory are two critical technologies in systems biology, translational cancer research and personalized medicine.
