SGI acquired substantially all the assets of COPAN Systems on February 23, 2010. COPAN, a privately held company based in Longmont, CO, is the industry leader in cost-effective, enterprise-class storage solutions for the protection and management of Persistent Data.

COPAN strengthens the SGI storage portfolio by adding a highly scalable, energy efficient storage platform. This new platform will allow SGI customers access to Virtual Tape Library (VTL) and Disk-to-Disk capabilities, as well as an integrated, real-time Hierarchical Storage Management (HSM) solution.

SGI and COPAN customers will benefit from an expanded portfolio of purpose-built, innovative, massively scalable high performance storage products. Specifically, SGI customers will now have access to new storage technologies that target persistent data storage with the COPAN platform. This space and energy efficient platform will allow SGI customers to significantly decrease the cost and complexity of storing and managing the overwhelming volumes of long-term information in data-rich organizations.
