High Efficiency Power Options

SGI's Eco-Logical™ servers and storage are designed to reduce power consumption and increase system-level efficiency and reliability. Leveraging low wattage components with high Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) ratings — with careful focus on the power supply in a given system — is an important design criteria. Available with both high efficiency Alternating Current (AC) and Direct Current (DC) power supplies, SGI servers and storage systems feature a broad range of power distribution options compatible with any data center design:

High Efficiency AC Deployments

  • Our high efficiency AC rack level solutions feature servers and storage systems leveraging our custom, high value AC power supplies compatible with all standard data center environments.

Rectified AC-to-DC Power

  • Launched in 2003, our award-winning Rectified AC-to-DC rack-level designs enable the conversion of standard data center AC input power to -48VDC within the rack itself, providing each DC-based system with high efficiency coupled with the superior reliability equivalent to most redundant AC designs. Our easiest and most popular DC deployment option, Rectified AC-to-DC Racks can be deployed in any AC-based data center with no infrastructure changes required.
  • Applying our rectification technology to an entire data center row, SGI Central Rectifier Cabinet technology further consolidates AC-DC rectification, yielding additional gains in reliability and availability.

Direct DC Power Solutions

  • DC-based data centers (such as legacy telco environments) can experience immediate power savings delivering DC input power directly to SGI -48VDC based servers and storage.
  • AC-based data centers have the option to deploy a sophisticated data center wide high voltage rectification module from SGI partner Validus, essentially transforming a legacy AC data center into a DC-based data center while eliminating costly AC infrastructure.

Each of SGI power distribution techniques — whether a traditional AC design or one of our patented DC technologies — can alleviate the heat generation and power efficiency challenges that burden data center operators today, while increasing reliability and overall operational cost savings.
