Cx-brick (CPU module):
This new "super-brick" is the CPU building block of SGI® Origin® 3000. The Cx-brick packs up to 16 MIPS processors and 32GB of memory into a compact 4U (seven-inch) module, offering quadruple the maximum computational capability of the previous C-brick. The Cx-brick offers enhanced configuration flexibility to scale more memory or I/O per processor.

IX-brick (base I/O module)*:
The IX-brick enables the modular construction of base system I/O and provides 11 available PCI-X slots, distributed over six 64-bit/133MHz PCI-X buses, system disk, and a CD-ROM. To expand the I/O capabilities of the system further, PX bricks can be added to avoid unnecessarily duplicating the initial I/O infrastructure.

PX-brick (PCI expansion)*:
For PCI expansion, the PX-brick provides 12 hot-pluggable PCI-X cards distributed over six buses. Each bus supports two PCI slots configurable at 33 or 66 MHz and is also PCI-compatible. The scalable, high-bandwidth architecture of SGI Origin 3000 ensures that every bus on every P-brick operates without bandwidth contention at any time.

X-brick (XIO™ expansion):
The X-brick delivers high-performance I/O expansion with four XIO slots that support HIPPI, GSN, VME, and other high-performance networking cards. The X-brick has two Xtown2 ports (1.6GB/sec each direction) that connect to an Xtown2 port on a C-brick.

Image of R-brick

R-brick (router interconnect):
The R-brick is a metarouter that provides system scalability up to 512 processors in a high-memory bandwidth and low-memory-latency shared-memory environment.

Image of D-brick2

D-brick2 (disk storage):
For data-intensive applications, each D-brick2 supports up to 16 Fibre Channel drives supporting over 2TB of directly connected disk storage. To maximize performance, each disk can be connected to either one of two separate Fibre Channel loops. The D-brick2 supports either Fibre Channel attached JBOD (just a bunch of disks) or RAID (redundant array of independent disks) within an SGI Origin 3000 rack.

Image of G-brick

G-brick (InfiniteReality4™ graphics expansion):
The G-brick provides tightly integrated InfiniteReality4™ large-scale visualization capabilities that can be scaled from 1 to 16 pipes (eight G-bricks in a system). Each G-brick has one 2RM port and one 4RM port.

Image of V-brick

V-brick (InfinitePerformance™ graphics expansion):
The V-brick is a 4U-high (7 inches) brick for the SGI Onyx 3000 series that holds up to two independent InfinitePerformance graphics pipes, each with dual-channel and digital video output capabilities. When used with the Scalable Graphics Compositor, the V-brick enables users to achieve unparalleled polygon per second performance.
