INMET mainly uses their UV 2000 for High Performance Computing (HPC) in the area of numerical weather forecasting. They run two regional meteorological model systems originally from Germany. One is a High Resolution Model (HRM) and the other is Consortium for Small-Scale Modeling (COSMO).
Approximately 400 research studies are utilized with this SGI 1000 known as "Nautilus". The system is used for data analysis and simulation work. NICS leadership wants the system to be used to turn data into knowledge and insight.

Biogemma's researches utilize their SGI UV 1000 for plant biotechnology research such as genetic engineering, cellular and molecular biology, genome analysis, molecular marking, bioinformatics, plant physiology and pathology.
PSC's SGI UV 1000 system known as "Blacklight" is used by many US scientists and engineers for research on many projects. For many research communities, including data analysis and many areas of computer science, it has opened the door to the use of high-performance computation.
