SGI and PLATINUM technology,inc. Announce Cosmo Software Agreement

SGI and PLATINUM technology, announced that PLATINUM technology has acquired the Cosmo Software products. Building on their leadership in innovative technologies, PLATINUM technology will support these for the Windows platform.

SGI will use its in-depth knowledge of the IRIX operating system to support the Cosmo products on IRIX: Cosmo Create, Cosmo Code, Cosmo Player and Cosmo Worlds.

Cosmo Player 2.1.5 is the free, high-performance, cross-platform viewer for applications written in Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML) 2.0, the open standard for 3D content on the Web.

Cosmo Player 2.1.5 complies with the full VRML 2.0 spec, plus it takes full advantage of SGI's OpenGL technology.

The viewer interface has a new ControlPanel that makes it easy to navigate a 3D world for beginners, yet it is fully featured for experts. Also new in this release is support for Java in the Script Node and Javascript as well as full support for EAI applets, VRMLScript and ECMAScript.
