Managing your IRIX License

SGI IRIX operating system software is an invaluable component of SGI intellectual property. The IRIX end-user license agreement states that the IRIX OS is licensed to the system it originally shipped with and is bound by the terms in place at the time of that shipment.

Since April 2004, MIPS IRIX systems shipped with non-transferable end-user license agreements for the IRIX operating system. Therefore, the license agreement becomes void when the ownership of the hardware is transferred. SGI has had various IRIX license policies prior to April 2004, and certain license agreements may be transferable if there is compliance with its stated terms and conditions. The foremost important condition of a license transfer is to notify SGI prior to a system and license transfer.

IRIX License Information Form
Since your IRIX end-user license agreement is specific to your system and its ship date, the first step is to determine when the system was originally shipped from SGI. To obtain this information, simply look up your system serial number and complete and submit the IRIX Information Form. An SGI representative will contact you with the system and software details, including the original system ship date, the status of your IRIX license, and options for renewing or upgrading your IRIX software. The IRIX Information Form may also serve as your notification to SGI if you wish to transfer the license agreement.
