IRIX 6.5.3 released

The third intermediate release of the IRIX 6.5 release family has released and is shipping with new systems from Silicon Graphics, Inc. manufacturing. This IRIX 6.5.3 release contains updates for both the maintenance (IRIX 6.5.3m) and feature (IRIX 6.5.3f) streams.

In addition to approximately 800 fixes, IRIX 6.5.3 contains the following new hardware support and major software changes:

New hardware support:

  • TREX
  • new 21" monitors
  • Redundant Power Supplies
  • DPLEX
  • QED RM5271 processor for O2s
Software enhancements:
  • Simplified IRIX installation in Software Manager and Inst
  • Improved font/Xlib support for European locales (and Euro symbol)
  • LDAP 3.0 support for UNS
  • zic/zdump support
  • X remote-execution plugin for Netscape
  • xfwp, firewall proxy for remote X execution
  • RSVP mib support
  • nsd performance improvements
FCS (first customer ship) occured on February 9, 1999. At that time customers began receiveing 6.5.3 from support. You can also download it from SupportFolio.
