YES CERTIFIED Altix Systems
Novell provides bulletins for all YES CERTIFIED systems. The bulletins provide details on the configuration of the systems covering such components as processor, hard drive, and host bus adapter, among others. To see all bulletins related to SGI products:

  1. go to the YES CERTIFIED Bulletin Search on the Novell web site
  2. in the "Company" scroll box, select "SGI"
  3. click the "Search" button at the bottom of the page

SUSE® Linux Enterprise Server 10

  • Is massively scalable - scales to 1,024 processors and support up to 10 TB of RAM
  • Supports the latest network acceleration technologies to gain network performance for I/O-intensive applications (Intel I/O AT).
  • Ships a fully integrated, multi-node, high-availability solution at no extra cost. Heartbeat 2 is now part of SUSE Linux Enterprise 10
  • Provides management tools that make it easy to configure storage for mission-critical workloads such as LAMP stacks, Oracle Real Application Clusters and Virtual Server (Xen) images
  • Provides graphical iSCSI management tools that facilitate easy configuration of both iSCSI initiators on clients and iSCSI targets on servers.
  • Includes AppArmor for enterprise security
  • Includes XEN for virtualization (no IPF at this time)

XFS Support
XFS is an Open Source file system that was designed specifically for large files and large volume scalability. Video and multi-media files are best handled by this file system. Scaling to petabyte volumes, it also handles large amounts of data. XFS supports Data Migration. SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 supports XFS. SGI ProPack™ Support
Beginning with SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 Service Pack 1, SGI ProPack is available as an optional software package. SGI ProPack™ 4 is the first version of SGI ProPack to be certified by SGI and fully supported on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server. SGI ProPackincludes scientific libraries, NUMA tools, and other improvements intended to augment a Linux base distribution, users can expect to obtain application performance advantages. SGI ProPack 5 supports SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10.

Development Support
Novell provides an SDK that supports application development for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server enabling users to create comprehensive build systems. It provides tools needed to port applications. Novell provides information on certified applications for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server on the Novell web site where a partner guide is found. Once there select "advanced search" from left hand column:

  • Search term: Itanium

This search will result in a listing of all applications currently certified for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 on the Itanium platform. This database is being updated on a regular basis and customers are encouraged to visit the site often to review the application listing.

SGI
For customers requesting SUSE Linux Enterprise Server on their Altix systems, the operating system will be pre-installed by SGI manufacturing.

For all problems and questions, SGI's support organization utilizes its extensive Linux technical support expertise, comprehensive solutions database and the SUSE Linux Portal to resolve problems and answer questions quickly and thoroughly. SGI will analyze and qualify reported software problems and provide a resolution or fix that is subject to the limitations and restrictions described below. In addition, notwithstanding anything to the contrary, support for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server running on Altix systems is subject to the following as outlined in SGI's Support Policy for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server page.
