OpenGL Volumizer. An SGI Technology
This visible human data set shows volumetric data with transparency and color for different organs. The left knee is shown with full resolution using the roaming mode.

Introducing OpenGL Volumizer™, the industry's first commercially available, cross platform, high-level volume rendering application programming interface (API) for the energy, manufacturing, medical, and sciences markets. OpenGL Volumizer is a revolutionary graphics API designed for interactive, high quality, scalable visualization of large volumetric data sets. OpenGL Volumizer provides a high-level interface to OpenGL® hardware to allow application writers and researchers to visualize multiple gigabytes of volumetric data. The API uses OpenGL for volume rendering and hence allows standard graphics applications to treat volumetric and surface data in a similar fashion. With the latest version of this API, more sophisticated applications are being created, providing radiologists, physicians, geologists and researchers with unparalleled visualization and exploration capabilities, significantly reducing the time it takes to get to new discoveries.
