ArcFiniti™
As a complete archiver, ArcFiniti is a fully realized solution that brings to the general IT market an easy-to-deploy package featuring SGI's powerful suite of hardware and software tools, which power some of the world's largest archives. With ArcFiniti you have a revolutionary alternative to both costly disk-based solutions and economical but slower, less reliable tape solutions. ArcFiniti gives you the best of both worlds — the reliability, easy management, and quick data access of disk — all at a fraction of the cost of transactional storage. Plus you get all the advantages of unprecedented reliability, scalability, efficiency and low power and cooling consumption. Virtualized Archive Tiers: Making the Archive Accessible, and Affordable ArcFiniti Makes All Files Visible All the Time. A key component of ArcFiniti's ease of use is the ability for users to have standard, file-level access to the archive much like a standard network-attached disk array. But unlike a these expensive transactional arrays, ArcFiniti provides an integrated Archive Tier with power-saving and data protection features necessary for a viable archive. To do this, ArcFiniti includes a Primary Cache of high performance disk for fast I/O that is virtualized with the Archive Tier. From a user perspective, all content is visible all the time in one large archive. Based upon a user policies, ArcFiniti continuously monitors and automatically migrates data between the Archive Tier and the Primary Cache to optimize access performance while maximizing operational savings. Only the most critical or timely data resides on higher performance Primary Cache, while less critical or timely data is automatically migrated to the Archive Tier. Data always appears to be online to end users and applications regardless of its actual storage location. Storage Tiering in Today's Business Climate The vast amount of file based persistent data (write once, read infrequently) residing in today's enterprise class businesses, is either kept online - burdening and consuming expensive transactional storage, or archived offline - minimizing the business value of that information. Although storage tiering solutions are not new to data management, they have not been broadly adopted due to the limited storage tiering options that provide no distinct economic or performance advantages…until now.
