Reduce data retention cost and complexity

Overview
New features for SGI® InfiniteStorage Data Migration Faciliity (DMF) deliver ILM power and control:

  • Lower TCO with Reduced Cost of Capacity and Administration
  • Increase ROI with Higher Data Access and Productivity
  • Optimize Data Management and Control
  • Reduce Risk to Data Retention and Accountability
  • Protect Investment with Infinite Scalability
  • Integrate Seamlessly with Consolidation and Data Protection

Preparing for Expanding Data Requirements
Faster processors, less expensive storage hardware, more sophisticated instrumentation, proliferation of formats, compliance regulations, corporate oversight, and competitive pressure are just some of the factors combining to create the data explosion.

In the average computing environment data under management doubles every two years. In a typical SGI customer environment, it doubles every 6 to 18 months. The cost and complexity of managing this type of data growth can be staggering - consuming a larger and larger percentage of IT capital and personnel budgets while doing little to reduce the mounting risk of data loss.

SGI's InfiniteStorage Data Lifecycle Management (DLM) solution - Data Migration Facility (DMF) - eliminates these problems by automating data migration for the highest possible capacity utilization, providing much faster access to data than manual data migration, and removing the human error potential from the data movement itself.

A History and Future Of Innovation
New features for DMF build on SGI's performance and scalability leadership in DLM and, for the first time, add a simple, powerful set of tools to create implement and manage DLM policies.

Now fully integrated with data protection options including Legato NetWorker® and Atempo™ Time Navigator™, SGI is leading the way in delivering the core value of ILM today.

For more than 10 years DMF users have been able to simply and easily define and deploy Data Lifecycle Management policy automation globally. With new DMF enhancements data can be uniquely classified, even at the file level, and policies can be customized based upon the unique criteria of the environment, including file names, quality of service, priority, time of day, geographic location. And for the first time data classification can be implemented from sources external to the DMF system, including the user and application.
