VME Expansion
VME Expansion on Origin and Onyx 2 To add VME capability to Origin 3000, Origin 2000, Onyx 3000, or Onyx2, you must add two components: To add VME to an Origin 200, you must also add a GIGAchannel. The XIO to VME Adapter is available from SGI. Elma Electronic offers a choice of three VME chassis manufactured to SGI specifications. Customers must purchase a chassis directly from Elma Electronic. The XIO to VME adapter consists of two boards and two interconnecting cables:
The XIO interface board plugs into any XIO slot, and the VME interface board plugs into a slot in the VME chassis. There are two variations of the XIO to VME adapter:
Electrically, the two adapters are identical. The only difference between the two is the form factor of the VME board that is included. The NUMAlinkTM cable plugs directly into the XIO board on one end and into the VME board on the other end. There are no bulkheads which would require additional connectors. The ground cable interconnects the ground lugs provided on the VME chassis from Elma Electronic and the Origin or Onyx2 chassis. This cable must be connected to ensure proper operation. VME Chassis from Elma Electronic Elma Electronic has developed three VME chassis that meet SGI specifications for grounding and EMI. Customers should purchase chassis directly from Elma.
