SGI Buys COPAN Systems
SGI announced the purchase of substantially all the assets and assumption of a limited number of liabilities of COPAN Systems, Inc., a provider of high performance storage archive solutions for real-time access to long-term persistent data. SGI acquired the assets with the goal of expanding SGI's storage portfolio to include a highly scalable, energy efficient enterprise Massive Array of Idle Disks (MAID) platform. COPAN storage solutions are designed to allow customers to access Disk-to-Disk and Virtual Tape Library (VTL) capabilities for cost-effective management of large data environments.

The Institute of Cancer Research Selects SGI® Altix® UV
The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) selected SGI Altix UV to support its future life-saving research. The ICR joins the growing list of globally significant high performance computing (HPC) facilities embracing Altix UV as the future of open, high performance, big-memory supercomputing. Altix UV will provide the ICR with a massively scalable shared memory system to process its growing data requirements, including hundreds of terabytes of data for biological networks, MRI imaging, mass-spectrometry, phenotyping, genetics and deep-sequencing information across thousands of CPUs. The Oxford Supercomputing Centre (OSC) provides high performance computing (HPC) services to researchers at the University of Oxford. The facility is now also open to commercial users, who lease the computational capabilities as well as the in-house expertise of the OSC. To support this service expansion, the OSC needed to upgrade its existing hardware to gain additional performance and memory capabilities for both Oxford researchers and the OSC’s commercial customers.
