SGI's Big Brain Computer Powers the Global Twitter Heartbeat
Viewing the hopes and fears of the world through the analysis of real-time Twitter data on the SGI® UV™ 2000 -- #tweetbeat
The Global Twitter Heartbeat project performed real-time stream processing of ten percent of Twitter's 500 million daily tweets as they were posted, and analyzed every tweet to assign location (not just GPS-tagged tweets, but processing the text of the tweet itself), and tone values. The resulting data was visualized in a stunning heat map infographic providing a unified geospatial perspective. With SGI UV, the entire process from ingest to data analysis to heat map runs at a speed that allows visualization of a map frame per second. During Supercomputing 2012, live up-to-the-moment heat maps were made available to show the real-time sentiment on Twitter. SGI announced the availability of NVIDIA® Tesla® K20 family of GPU accelerators in fully managed and integrated solutions across its entire server product line. Completely integrated and tested in SGI's manufacturing facility, the solutions include SGI® Management Center software and options like Performance Suite and SGI InfiniteStorage™ to make customers productive in just hours not weeks.
The NVIDIA Tesla K20X GPU accelerator can speed up applications by up to 10X1 when paired with leading CPUs. It features the new GK110 GPU with 2,688 cores, 3.95 teraflops single-precision and 1.31 teraflops double-precision peak processing capability, 6 GB of on-board memory, and a memory bandwidth of 250 GB/s. The Tesla K20 accelerator delivers more than 3.52 teraflops of single-precision and 1.17 teraflops of double-precision peak performance.

SGI ICE X Selected by CRIEPI for Electric Power Research
670.9-Teraflop Large-Scale Cluster System with Top-Class Scientific Calculation Performance in Japan
SGI announced the installation of the latest high-performance computing (HPC) blade server, known as SGI® ICE™ X, for a new large-scale computer system for scientific calculation at the Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry (CRIEPI). The system boasts a theoretical computing performance of 670.9 teraflops, one of the fastest cluster systems in Japan. It is also the largest and most powerful cluster system in the SGI ICE series supplied by SGI in Japan.
