Course Duration
3 days or 2 days if no SPA included
Audience
Individuals responsible for deploying, maintaining or supporting LSI Engenio storage systems products.
Pre-requisites
- Completion of the Advanced Storage Integration course and/or equivalent
- Knowledge. A basic administrative knowledge of Windows (i.e., using
- Disk Management, creating & mapping disks and file systems) Linux
- and/or Solaris operating systems (i.e., adding/deleting packages, formatting,
- mounting volumes & creating file systems). A working knowledge of RAID
- technology, Storage Area Networks (SAN) and the Fibre Channel
- topologies.
Course Description
This course presents the technical aspects of LSI Engenio storage products and how they relate to performance within a SAN topology. Delegates will have the opportunity to adjust tunable parameters to achieve optimal performance. Delegates will use various IO tools for the labs. This course is designed to teach the delegates the skills necessary to analyze input/output from servers and make changes to storage systems to optimize performance. The course concentrates on storage system configuration and tunable parameters.
Course objectives
At the end of the course the delegate will be able to:-
- Show how disk latencies relate to IO profiles
- Identify tools that can be used to generate and measure IO for
- performance tuning
- State the precautions when using IO generating tools
- Configure and use IOmeter
- Configure and use Storage Performance Analyzer (SPA)
- List all of the parameters that can be tuned in a storage system
- Configure storage system parameters such as RAID and segment size
- to optimize performance for both a throughput and operations
- intensive IO environment
- Determine when to enable or disable cache
- Identify common performance criteria for hosts
- Apply performance concepts to host configurations.
Essential equipment requirements
- 1 storage system and server per 2 delegates.
- High performance server required if SPA is included.
Format
Instructor-led (lecture/lab)
