In this course, participants will expand on their existing knowledge base of how to administer and manage eDirectory to learn what goes on behind the scenes in order to more effectively manage, monitor, and diagnose issues in environments of all sizes.

- Current Novell eDirectory implementations
- Novell eDirectory architecture including system partitions
- Advanced usage of Novell eDirectory tools: iMonitor, iManager, the Novell eDirectory Management Toolbox, DSREPAIR, and Linux command line utilities
- Accessing Novell eDirectory data through the use of LDAP and supported LDAP tools like the Import Convert Export (ICE) utility
- How to understand Novell eDirectory background processed including the obituary process and the new Novell eDirectory 8.8 Priority Synchronization process
- How to customize Novell eDirectory through cache tuning, indexing, auxiliary schema classes, and the new Novell eDirectory 8.8 features of encrypted replication, encrypted attributes, and multiple instance install on Linux.
- Performing Novell eDirectory health checks using iMonitor and DSTRACE and troubleshooting several problem scenerios
Prerequisites
- An understanding of how to use eDirectory management tools
- Knowledge of how to perform directory partition and replica operations
- Be comfortable working with eDirectory or Novell Directory Services
- Familiarity with day-to-day administration tasks
- An understanding of how to properly design an eDirectory tree for a small-to-medium sized deployment
- How to perform a basic health check using iMonitor
Format
The labs in this course utilize multiple platforms, and focus on the cross-platform capabilities of the directory, providing information that is useful to students regardless of the platform used in their production environments.
