This course provides experienced system administrators with the tools and skills to set up a LAN of SGI IRIX 6.5 based systems.

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  • Configure systems into local area networks using multiple routes between the individual LANS
  • Successfully troubleshoot a network
  • Administer the configuration files for the Unified Name Service (UNS)
  • Centrally administer important configuration files for multiple LANs using Network Information Services (NIS)
  • Provide reliable host and IP address resolution for multiple LANs using a Domain Name System (DNS)
  • Configure systems to forward and relay electronic mail within simple networked environments
  • Configure systems to share remote files and directories between networked filesystems using NFS and AutoFS
  • Administer systems using the available security features

Students should have completed the following SGI course:

This course is intended for:

  • System administrators who will manage multi-user environments.
  • System administrators who will manage Local Area Networks.
  • Individuals who have completed IRIX System Administration I or equivalent, have knowledge of a text editor and six or more months of experience as an IRIX system administrator.
