Course Description
The total class time is 5 days. The course is geared towards individuals requiring a rapid training curriculum to cover the necessary knowledge and skill set to properly install, configure, support and maintain LSI price band 4-6 storage systems (6998, 3992, 3994). These individuals should already have field exposure with LSI storage products and technologies from a post-sales perspective.
Installation & Configuration
The Installation and Configuration modules present the technical aspects of the 6998, 3992, and 3994 storage product line, as well as storage system fundamentals. Participants will have the opportunity to install and configure storage hardware components and storage
management software.
Support and Maintenance
Success in supporting and maintaining optimal storage systems requires the ability to rapidly assess a situation, analyze information, and
determine a timely solution. The support and maintenance modules will utilize a problem solving approach known as the OODA cycle. (Observation, Orientation, Decision, Action). The support and maintenance modules present the technical aspects of supporting and maintaining LSI 6998, 3992, and 3994 storage systems within a complete data storage solution. Participants will have the opportunity to practice different procedures related to diagnosing storage subsystems, troubleshooting techniques, and maintenance related procedures at a customer site.
The modules use a case-study approach and group problem determination exercises to provide participants opportunities to analyze and diagnose several storage subsystem solutions, HBA and multipathing drivers, and the upgrade process for controller firmware and host software. The lecture will include an in depth discussion of how to use the tools available in the storage management software to analyze storage system situations, including an analysis of the support data files.
Prerequisites
- A basic administrative knowledge of operating systems; Windows Server 2003 will be used in the classroom. Though not required, a basic understanding of Linux or Unix environments will be beneficial
- Hands on experience with RAID technology, Storage Area Networks (SAN) and Fibre Channel topologies
- Previous field exposure to LSI storage products and technologies
Who Should Attend
This course is intended for customer support personnel and business partners responsible for the installation, operation, maintenance and
support of storage systems who meet all the prerequisites and require a rapid training track.
