This course provides the experienced Linux® user with the skills and information needed to administer the SGI Altix 3000 family of servers and superclusters. Lab exercises are included to prepare students for the actual work environment.

** Note ** This class is specifically for customers who are using the SuSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) based Altix Environment . The class is based on the SLES 2.6 kernel with the additional SGI ProPack software.

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
  • Plan and configure an installation server for the Altix systems
  • Plan and install SGI ProPack and SuSE Linux Enterprise Server over the network
  • Plan and perform a network software update
  • Configure Autoyast and use to install an ia64 default system image
  • Use the SGI YOU server to perform updates
  • Configure a Logical Volume with YaST
  • Mirror the system disk with MD
  • Create a customized firewall with SuSEFirewall2/iptables
  • Set up a secure interactive environment with ssh/PAM
  • Monitor process and memory resources
  • Gather comprehensive process statistics with CSA

Class Hours

Class starts at 9:00 AM. The course dates and times will be included in the confirmation notice you receive from SGI after you register.

Accreditation

This course is part of the Accreditation for Continued Excellence (ACE) program. An optional ACE examination is offered during the afternoon of the last day of class. The examination period follows the completion of the standard coursework.

There is no additional charge to take this examination on the last day of class. If you wait to take the examination at a later time, an examination charge will be accessed per the conditions of the ACE program.

If you plan to take the examination on the last day of class, ensure that your travel arrangements allow for up to two (2) hours in the afternoon to complete the examination.
