CXFS Administration
Length: 4.5 Days - Current Schedule  |  Price: $3495 - Payment Info

The CXFS Administration course is designed to provide an introduction and overview of the CXFS product and the hardware environment in which it is intended to exist. The course also provides students with an opportunity to explore the CXFS software environment and see it function.

The CXFS Administration course covers both IRIX and SGI ProPack on Altix operating systems. Representative MultiOS client-only operating systems are covered as well.

Labs require students to exercise hardware and software to create CXFS nodes and clusters, test them, create XVM logical volumes, create XFS filesystems and mount the filesystems via CXFS. Procedures to bring up and shutdown a node and a cluster are discussed and practiced in lab.

Topics Covered

  • CXFS Overview
  • Software Setup
  • Check and change initial configuration as necessary (lab)
  • CXFS GUI (introduction to CXFS configuration and administration via CXFS GUI)
  • Create CXFS Cluster by using the CXFS GUI (lab)
  • XVM Concepts and Creating XVMs
  • Create XVM logical volume structures (lab)
  • Make XFS filesystems (lab)
  • Define XFS filesystems to CXFS (lab)
  • CXFS mount XFS filesystems (lab)
  • CXFS CLI (Command Line Interface)
  • Create CXFS Cluster and do on-going administration by using the CXFS CLI (lab)
  • Troubleshooting
  • Obtain information from the CXFS environment to send to SGI support (lab)
  • Review SGI CXFS "Best Practices" (lab)
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software induced problems as time permits (lab)

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  • Describe the CXFS hardware and software environments
  • Configure and administer a CXFS environment by using the CXFS GUI and various command line interfaces
  • SGI label luns and create basic logical volumes by using XVM
  • Make XFS filesystems by using command line interface and/or the GUI
  • Define XFS filesystems to CXFS
  • Mount and unmount filesystems by using CXFS
  • Test and shutdown CXFS nodes and clusters
  • Develop familiarity with CXFS daemons and their inter-operation to support troubleshooting
  • Troubleshoot by using log files

Prerequisites

  • Familiarity with SGI storage area networks (SAN)
  • Familiarity with Brocade series Fibre Channel (FC) switches
  • Familiarity with the TP9xxx series storage systems would be very helpful
  • Familiarity with IRIX operating system at the command line level
  • Familiarity with SGI ProPack (on Linux) on an Altix platform
  • Experience with Origin servers and L1 controllers helpful
  • Experience with Altix servers and L1 and L2 controllers helpful
  • General introduction to the CXFS™ MultiOS client-only clients has been incorporated into the standard CXFS Administration course. Solaris™ MultiOS client and Windows MultiOS client platforms are available for labs and will be used to represent all CXFS MultiOS clients.
