This course covers advanced routing and networking applications including DNS, NIS, Samba, LDAP, DHCP, Sendmail, and RoboInst™ at an advanced level. It is assumed that attendees of this course are already familiar with these topics at an entry level and the focus is therefore on security, performance, and advanced configuration issues.

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to

• Set up and configure nine systems into three local area networks (LANs) using multiple routes between the individual LANs
• Integrate SGI® systems into an existing homogeneous network
• Identify and troubleshoot poor network performance issues
• Administer the configuration files for the Domain Name Service
• Configure and share resources using Samba on IRIX
• Configure and customize NIS
• Configure and implement the LDAP client-server model
• Configure and implement the Apache web server
• Configure mail clients, relays, and gateways using sendmail
• Configure server and client systems to support DHCP operations
• Configure and manage RoboInst operations

This course is intended for:

• System and network administrators
• Others who wish to become more familiar with networking applications

• IRIX System Administration I or equivalent
• IRIX System Administration II or equivalent
• IRIX Network Administration I or equivalent
• Knowledge of a text editor
• Six or more months of experience as an IRIX system and/or network administrator
