The IRIX System Administration II course is an important continuation of the IRIX System Administration I
course. While continuing to add topics in basic system administration, this course also goes
into more detail about such topics as system monitoring, process (job) management, disk management (such as initializing a disk and performing mirroring and striping), and system software installation capabilities.
One particularly significant component of this course is a system troubleshooting lab, where students are asked to diagnose and resolve bugs that have been "planted" on one or more workstations. Together with the IRIX System Administration I course, this course completes the foundation for basic system administration.
Topics Covered
- Troubleshooting guidelines and system log management
- Embedded Support Partner (ESP)
- Job management (cron, checkpoint/restart)
- Disk management
- Disk mirroring and striping
- Networking overview
- Introduction to NFS administration
- Advanced software installation
- Basic system security
- General system troubleshooting (lab)
