The IRIX Advanced System Administration class provides experienced system administrators with the tools and skills to both monitor a system for errors and tune it for better performance. This course covers how to correct system errors, reconfigure the system, tune system resources, and implement disk quotas.

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  • Identify a system problem and determine a course of action to correct it
  • Monitor system performance and tune where necessary
  • Implement disk quotas

Prerequisites

  • IRIX System Administration I and IRIX System Administration II
  • Experience as a system administrator managing multiuser or project group systems; attendance in System Administration courses or the ability to comfortably set up and manage an IRIX system
  • Ability to install and configure IRIX; set up and attach devices such as printers, tape devices, and terminals; and repartition and reconfigure disks and filesystems

The student is overqualified if he/she can:

  • Reconfigure the IRIX kernel, identify system errors and performance bottlenecks and implement a course of action to remedy the problems, and implement disk quotas
