    1. Is the new SGI EduCare program available to all customers?
    No. The EduCare program is available only to degree-granting institutions. For those customers who no longer meet eligibility requirements, please contact your local SGI service sales representative for information.

    2. What software applications are included in EduCare?
    The EduCare License Bundle contains the following software applications:

    • Message Passing Toolkit
    • ProDevTM Workshop
    • C Compiler
    • C++ Compiler
    • Fortran 90
    • Fortran 77
    • IRIX® Dev Foundation 1.2
    • IRIX® Dev Libraries for 6.5
    • Auto-Parallelizing Option (APO)

    3. Why is the Varsity Program being discontinued?
    SGI has been taking steps to refine our market focus, product offerings, and programs to align with market requirements and strategic corporate objectives. The Varsity Program was reviewed during this process and was determined to be in need of restructuring. The result, which is based on customer feedback, allows for more simplicity and streamlined service delivery while still offering substantial cost savings to our academic customers.

    4. Why did SGI not include all the software applications that were included under Varsity?
    SGI reviewed the most widely used proprietary software applications in the academic environment. The licenses included in EduCare represents the nine most commonly used applications.

    5. I am a current Varsity customer; will I be transitioned to the new program or do I need to purchase the new EduCare License Bundle?
    A SGI service sales representative, who will help transition you to the new program (pending confirmation of eligibility), will contact you. Please note there will not be a mass distribution of the EduCare License Bundle to transitioned customers. You will receive updates to the software applications contained in the bundle in the next software update release.

    6. When will I be transitioned?
    Current Varsity customers who qualify for the EduCare Program will be transitioned during the renewal process of their software agreement. You will be supported as you are currently until the time of transition.

    7. Do I need to sign a new legal agreement?
    No. North American customers currently under the Varsity Program will not need to sign an EduCare legal agreement to participate in the program. New members purchasing the EduCare Software License Bundle will need to sign the EduCare Program and License Agreement. Support to the software will be sold under a separate SGI Support Agreement.

    8. How will I receive software updates?
    You will receive software updates on a system-by-system basis after you have transitioned to EduCare. Shipments will be mailed directly to each enduser. Each system will be designated with either a CD media or right-to-use media option, determined by you during the transition process

    9. Do we still need authorized callers?
    No. Authorized callers are not required in the EduCare Program. All endusers can obtain technical support directly from the SGI Customer Support Center.

    10. What discount is available to me under EduCare?
    Only one discount is available to customers in the EduCare Program. This is a regional discount for any SGI® standard support offering. No other SGI discounts may be applied above and beyond the regional discount.

    11. How do I support the software applications that were part of the Varsity Bundle, but are not part of the EduCare License Bundle?
    You can choose to add these software applications to your system serial number at the time of transition. You will receive a regional discount off the total support price as an EduCare member.

    12. Can resellers sell the EduCare License Bundle to degree-granting institutions and purchase support applying the EduCare regional discount?
    Yes. Resellers can sell the EduCare License Bundle and service to degree-granting institutions. They will be required to sign the sales agreement stating that the end user is degree-granting.
