The MLC++ was originally developed at Stanford University. Ronny Kohavi, who was formerly at SGI, led the project with help from Nils Nilsson and Yoav Shoham.

MLC++ utilities were first released December 1994. Since then, over 350 different hosts have copied the utilities.
